4:00 PM - 5:00 PM    Acting Class - Acting Class-Tuesdays
Acting skills taught: Improvisation, Projection, Listening, Stage Movement, Singing Activities: Improvisation, Theater Games, Scene Work, PresentationIf you've ever thought that it might be fun to be an actor in a movie or TV show or a play then this class is just right for you!Learning how to act begins with improvisation and theater games and both are a lot of fun!Improvisations are short scenes in which the actors are given a character and situation and they make up the lines themselves; they improvise!  Young actors learn that through the power of saying "Yes" to whatever is said to them, they can build an imaginative scene together with their partner.  In one scene you might be a Martian, in the next you might be the Mayor of Prospect and then you might be a Dill Pickle. As we become more confident in our improvisations we play theater games like "Park Bench", "Taxi Cab" and "Late for Work" that use our growing acting skills in situations that look more like scenes from a play.  Then we will work on an open scene; a short content-less set of lines that gives young actors a chance to use their imaginations.  By inventing their own situation, characters, and stage movement, the same set of words will be used to create scenes that are completely different from each other.  Finally, knowing that a great number of young actors love musicals, we will work on one musical number.  All of our work will be used for a final presentation.  Families and friends will be invited to watch us perform the things we have been working on.
